FROM THE RECTOR

"The Heartbeat of the Church is Mission." This was the theme of this year's Diocesan Convention last week in Bangor.  Bishop Lane's address spoke to the economic and social realities we are currently facing, as well as how much the landscape of our communities has changed over the last several decades.  The churches no longer have a lock on Sunday mornings. There have been dramatic changes in family and communal life.  And recently some of our parishes have been hit very hard by the recession.  But for all of that, he reminds us that at the foundation of what it means to be Episcopalian are worship and mission.  Further, it is not our mission, but God's. And that mission has a church.  Continued on "Our Rector"

WE ARE DOING "A NEW THING"

St. Margaret's  has started a weekly Saturday evening contemporary service with storytelling, singing and Holy Communion. People of all ages are invited and welcome.

For nine months the congregation and search committee prayed about "doing a new thing". Now that Martha  has had some time to settle into our parish ministry, the time is ripe to start a new service open to all ages. "I'm very excited about what we are doing here," said Martha .  "There are people in our community for whom Sunday morning services don't work for a variety of reasons. It is my hope that people will feel this is a safe space to explore their spirituality, to learn, and to meet new people.  I'm also hoping the service will evolve over time, as the people who come help shape it."

A "come-as-you-are" event (in response to one question, yes, ski clothes are fine!), the 5 p.m. service will have scripture reading, storytelling, shared reflection for all who wish to, singing and shared music-making, followed by the Eucharist.

The service will be held in the beautiful St. Margaret's sanctuary, rearranged into a more informal worship space.

The Mission of St. Margaret's Church is
"to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ."

Come to worship and celebrate with us - everyone is welcome.
